ºÚÁÏÍø´óÊÂ¼Ç branded social media accounts are a place for our broad community to ask questions, have discussions and share content related to the University and its work. This community is diverse and global. You can trust you’re engaging with an endorsed ºÚÁÏÍø´óÊÂ¼Ç social media page by checking our  Social Media Directory or, in most cases, by looking for a blue verified tick  on major social platforms.
Content posted by our community members on our pages or posts is not endorsed by ºÚÁÏÍø´óʼÇ. ºÚÁÏÍø´óÊÂ¼Ç is not responsible for the accuracy or substance of that content. ºÚÁÏÍø´óÊÂ¼Ç regularly monitors communities, however, it does not necessarily review every item posted by community members to its accounts or from other accounts where it is tagged or mentioned.
Academic Freedom
ºÚÁÏÍø´óÊÂ¼Ç strongly supports freedom of speech, and will protect academic freedom wherever people express their views within the law – including comments posted on ºÚÁÏÍø´óÊÂ¼Ç managed online communities.
The opinions expressed by ºÚÁÏÍø´óÊÂ¼Ç staff, including those posted on our news websites or official social media channels, should not be taken to represent the views of, or endorsement by, the University. These views may not necessarily reflect the views of all staff or students.
To best represent our entire community and preserve academic freedom, ºÚÁÏÍø´óʼǒs on campus and online channels are a forum for the respectful and inclusive debate and discussion of all ideas and a diversity of opinions.
The Model Code for the Protection of Freedom of Speech and Academic Freedom in Australian Higher Education Providers forms part of our ºÚÁÏÍø´óÊÂ¼Ç Code of Conduct & Values.
We encourage all members of our community to engage in discussions respectfully on social media, in line with the below rules which have been created to comply with both our commitment to freedom of speech and our duty to foster the wellbeing of students and staff.
Social Media House Rules - Engaging with a ºÚÁÏÍø´óÊÂ¼Ç social media account
We welcome contributions to our social media pages (e.g. comments, messages etc.) from anyone who would like to engage with us.
In order to maintain the principles of Academic Freedom and Freedom of Speech, we will not delete comments that are simply unfavourable to ºÚÁÏÍø´óʼÇ, or that others may find politely disagreeable. However, we may delete comments for the reasons listed below. Furthermore, as a public university, ºÚÁÏÍø´óÊÂ¼Ç is committed to fostering an environment where all students, staff, and our broader community, feel safe, respected, and included (regardless of gender, sexuality, or national or ethnic origin). In line with this commitment, comments may be removed if they pose a risk of making any student or group of students feel unsafe or unwelcome on the basis of these attributes.
We require that you:
- Comply with the relevant social media platform’s Terms of Use and Community Standards.
- Ensure contributions are suitable for individuals of all ages (social media can be accessed by minors) – swearing, pornography, violent or graphic content etc. will be removed. Similarly, any post which could be construed as inciting or promoting hatred, harassment, violence or intimidation of a group identified by reference to race, nationality, religion, or ethnic background may also be removed.
- Do not engage in trolling, personal attacks or abuse, including  bullying, humiliating, intimidating, threatening or discriminatory behaviour (e.g. race, gender, sexuality, religion, political beliefs).
- Keep discussion related to ºÚÁÏÍø´óÊÂ¼Ç or to the topic of the post. Spam and/or advertising will also be removed.
- Do not post defamatory or fraudulent content, content that’s created or manipulated with the intention to deceive or mislead, make false misrepresentations of fact, or share content that is in violation of any other laws.
- Do not misuse others’ intellectual property or copyrighted content with your posts.
- Do not post links encouraging academic misconduct, including but not limited to, essay writing or other contract cheating services.
Social media is a place for our community to be open and connected with each other – we encourage you to interact. To safeguard our community, comments or posts that do not meet the above social media house rules may be removed and offenders may be blocked/banned from page(s) without warning, at our discretion. We do not accept any liability for any loss arising out of or in connection with any such removal.
Disabling Comments
ºÚÁÏÍø´óÊÂ¼Ç reserves the right to restrict or disable comments on any post at our discretion where there is an elevated risk of our house rules being breached, including but not limited to increased risk of defamation occurring, or increased risk to the wellbeing of the students/staff as a result of bullying, trolling, discriminatory or humiliating comments.
