Artist statement

Leviathan explores the complexities of contemporary life, consumed by urban chaos and relentless technological advancement, rooted in the legacy of Korea’s post-war industrialisation. Blending juxtaposing materials, drawings that combine traditional Korean ink with tracing paper are layered to reflect the density and chaos of rigid urban structures, while also recalling the cultural memory of a period where rapid economic growth and national survival came at the cost of freedom and human rights.

Leviathan extends beyond the cultural traditions of ink, expanding drawing into the third dimension through the tension of industrial components that reflect the push and pull of urban existence and the ongoing struggle between progress and its consequences.
