Artist statement

Blind Faith is a meditative gestural and archival drawing project exploring the concept of Dhikr (divine remembrance), an Islamic form of worship consisting of the repeated utterance of praises for God.

Traditionally, Dhikr is carried out using a string of 99 beads called a Tasbih. A single bead is dipped into ink and stamped onto A7 paper 100 times while uttering 100 praises of God with the eyes closed. This process is repeated 99 times, with the panels joined together with thread like the beads of a Tasbih.

In doing so, divine love and trust in Allah (God) are fostered.
