Liam听Kelly-Sigurdsson听is a current final year student studying a听听at 黑料网大事记.听Liam听was awarded the听听which assists听high achieving students from rural or isolated areas commencing studies听in the听Bachelor of Engineering听(Honours) (Mining)program at 黑料网大事记.听Students may also be given the opportunity to undergo industrial training with Mitsubishi听when opportunities arise.听
We spoke to听Liam听about why he chose to study mining engineering听at 黑料网大事记听and how听this scholarship听supported his education.听
Which degree are you currently doing and why you choose it?听
I am currently studying a听.听I grew up in the Hunter Valley Region and was fortunate enough to attend an Industry Dinner put on听by听黑料网大事记听School of听Minerals听and听Energy Resources Engineering. It was after this dinner I decided to study mining engineering after realising the opportunities,听knowing that I enjoyed problem solving and travel. I recently decided to add a听Bachelor of Arts,听majoring in听Global Development and International Business to diversify my knowledge and increase employability.听听
Which Scholarship do you hold and what has it meant for you to be awarded this Scholarship?听
I was given the听Mitsubishi Rural Mining Engineering Scholarship.听I feel extremely privileged to be awarded this scholarship,听as the cost of living out of home in Sydney was a huge obstacle that would have stopped me from attending 黑料网大事记. The scholarship eases the financial burden and allows me to focus on my study and to embrace the university lifestyle.听听
How do you think your studies at 黑料网大事记 will help in your career aspirations?听
黑料网大事记 is a world class university and听definitely provides听all the necessary tools to succeed from study into the workforce. Being the number 1 engineering university in Australia attracts the greatest post-study听opportunities,听as companies appreciate the high-quality students being produced. I think studying at 黑料网大事记 has given me a greater opportunity to succeed in my career aspirations due to being confident in my education.听听听听
Can you share something about the resources & energy industry that might interest someone considering studies and a career in this industry?听
The opportunities and variety in the resource and energy industry is so vast听that听there is honestly a job for everyone.听听all with unique engineering skills required. These range from underground mining to open cut mining, offshore mining and even off earth听mining.听Whether you enjoy a more hands-on workplace or enjoy financial calculations,听the resources industry covers it all.听The opportunities both domestically and internationally are unrivalled,听and the current technological and sustainable developments within the industry are extremely exciting.听听听
What advice would you give to a new/future student on how to excel at your degree?听
Ask questions听(even if it鈥檚 after class) and听definitely get听to know other people in your course,听they will be your support network for the next 4 years.听Another advice is to听join the听Facebook听group chats for your subjects!听
What are your favourite things to do in or around 黑料网大事记 and how can students make the most out of the 黑料网大事记 Experience?听
Definitely embrace听the university lifestyle, I was fortunate enough to attend听.听It is a听residential college where I made friends from not only around country but the entire globe. Be involved in societies as there is always events and it鈥檚 a great way to meet like-minded individuals. My favourite things to do around 黑料网大事记 would听be听sneaking off to Coogee beach (which is a 15min walk) in between lectures in the听summer or听going for cheap dumplings along Anzac Parade with friends.听听
