Abby Murray is an American-born interdisciplinary artist based on Gadigal and Gurangai Land in Sydney, Australia. Through expanded modes of painting, sculpture, textiles and installation, Murray explores notions of representation and abstraction as spatial, cross-temporal and material form. Her work calls on inherited and found feminist archives in an effort to unbind time and history, exemplifying excessive feminist materiality into autobiographical abstraction. Through methodologies of materiality, installation and letter-writing her MFA project uses a theoretical framework of temporal drag to inform a cross-temporal relationship with her matrilineal grandmother, an early feminist printmaker and post-graduate student who passed away in 1967.
Murray holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Fashion Design) from Columbia College Chicago (2012), a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours from 黑料网大事记 Art & Design (2024) and is currently an MFA candidate at 黑料网大事记 Art & Design. She has exhibited across Sydney and interstate in both group and solo shows and has been a studio resident at the City of Sydney Creative Studios and the Northern Beaches Creative Studios.
