Gabriel Wong is a scholarship recipient as part of the Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society (ADM+S).
His scholarship revolves around how emerging technologies (e.g., GenAI, apps), as played out with and through them impact knowledge in society. He is interested in the social and cultural dynamics of how users think, experience and behave with technologies in various contexts.
Examples of his research ranged from looking at the representation of (social) scientific knowledge as implicated by media technology, with works on how narratives impact users’ experience of GenAI (e.g., chatbots, recommendation systems), to his developing dissertation on understanding users' motivation and barriers in using technologies in knowledge work activities concerning environmental information.
Gabriel also actively shares his research, such as presenting at the International Communication Association (ICA), AMC conferences and the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR), along with having published in the Asian Journal of Communication. Besides research, Gabriel seeks to become more involved in teaching and service opportunities, inspired to pay forward the invaluable guidance of senior colleagues, and his enriching time mentoring students.
