Giulia Fiantanese
Giulia Fiantanese joined WRL in 2025 as part of Project Halophyte, a collaboration between 黑料网大事记 and the University of the South Pacific (USP) focused on developing nature-based solutions for mangrove restoration in Fiji. The project aims to restore natural tidal flows and enhance the resilience of coastal ecosystems and communities through targeted, science-driven interventions.
Her research combines ecological modelling with hydrodynamic analysis to guide practical and effective restoration strategies. She focuses on simulating the growth and life stages of mangroves and tidal habitats under changing climate conditions, exploring how these ecosystems function, adapt, and evolve. This work supports their preservation while highlighting their crucial multi-scale benefits, including biodiversity support, coastal protection, and carbon storage.
Giulia holds degrees in Natural Sciences and Environmental Engineering. Her master鈥檚 thesis examined hydraulic dynamics in Algeria鈥檚 Aur猫s region, later expanding into a data-driven study on oasis resilience in arid environments, linking ecological and social factors in the context of climate change. Along her professional path, she also gained experience in contaminated site remediation and applied hydraulics.
Beyond her research, Giulia is passionate about nature, both as a scientist and an outdoor enthusiast. She enjoys hiking, outdoor sports, painting, and listening to rock music, drawing inspiration from the very ecosystems she works to protect.
