In May 2025, the inaugural NSW Health Advisory Research Panel was convened to provide feedback, advice, and guidance to ºÚÁÏÍø´óÊÂ¼Ç researchers on their specific projects, particularly those focused on population and public health research.

Following an EOI process, four ºÚÁÏÍø´óÊÂ¼Ç early and mid-career researchers were invited to pitch their project, followed by feedback from a panel of 5Ìýsenior members of NSW Health, including Dr Kerry Chant (Chief Medical Officer) Prof Tracey O’Brien (CEO, Cancer Institute NSW),Ìý Dr Kim Sutherland (Executive Director, Office for Health and Medical Research).

This was a unique opportunity for EMCRs to seek critical feedback on how their projects resonate with policy makers in NSW and how to develop their research ideas greater impact. The calibre of the panel members, reflects NSW Health’s interest in research from ºÚÁÏÍø´óÊÂ¼Ç Faculty of Medicine and Health.

From a Researcher:

To have this opportunity to connect with NSW Health without a grant looming is gold!

Advice from a panel member:Ìý

This is really important research. Be clear about your proposition and get down to the specifics and how it relates to the patient – look for the hook. Think about a patient cohort and identify the barriers.
