ICFHS researchers Professor Patricia M. Davidson and Dr. Peter Brown have published an invited commentary in the European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing, examining the opportunities and challenges of using artificial intelligence (AI) in clinical risk prediction models. Responding to a recent study on Intensive Care Unit stays by people with heart failure, the authors highlight how AI can enhance predictive accuracy and support real-time decision-making. The commentary outlines key considerations for developing trustworthy and effective AI tools, including transparency, bias mitigation, and robust data governance. Predictive models must be more than technical achievements; they should be integrated into clinical workflows in ways that are meaningful and actionable for patients, clinicians, and policymakers.
