We are delighted to announce the promotion of three academics from the School of Mathematics and Statistics to the position of Senior Lecturer: Dr Bill Ellis, Dr Sean Gardiner,听and Dr Daniel Han. Their promotions were confirmed in the most recent academic round.

Bill Ellis听was recently appointed our Deputy Director of Undergraduate Teaching. This is a new role created in the School in recognition of the complexity of the tasks of leading the School鈥檚 undergraduate teaching. He will work with Director of Undergraduate Teaching, Dr Alessandro Ottazzi, to divide听tasks in the ever-growing portfolio. Dr Ellis also recently spent six months as听Acting Director of听First听Year Studies. During that time he enthusiastically represented the School at events such as 黑料网大事记 Info Day and O Week.听

Sean Gardiner, who is the Chair of Publicity and leads our outreach efforts in the School, has been recognised for excellence several times. Among his accolades, he won theprestigious2023听Australian Mathematical Society Award for Teaching Excellence (Early Career). Dr Gardiner also won a 2020 Dean of Science Staff Award for Education Excellence as part of a team of six academics from the School.听

Daniel Han听joined the School in mid-2023 as a Lecturer in Applied Mathematics. He previously worked in the Neurobiology division of the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, UK. He also held a visiting academic position in the Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge and was a postdoctoral by-fellow at Churchill College. Dr Han has been keenly involved in the School's outreach activities, such as our annual Do The Maths program.听
