The team, led by Associate Professor Sunil Dubey, has been working with Professor Carlos Moreno, Chair of Entrepreneurship, Territorial and Innovation (ETI), and his team, at the on Urban Proximities – Sustainability, Governance and Smart Cities for Asia and Pacific.

Sunil has also been on the ETI Scientific Committee at Sorbonne University since 2014 along with leading international practitioners and academics, including Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus, Prof Saskia Sassen (Columbia), Dr Karuna Gopal (India) and Prof Carlo Ratti (MIT).

In September 2025, the Cities Institute collaborated with the ETI team in facilitating sessions at the international ' conference. The Cities Institute’s key focus areas are governance and city leadership for ASEAN Cities and promoting research and practice-led management learning in implementing smart cities planning principles.

The Urban Proximities Conference was held at the Paris City Hall and hosted by the Mayor of Paris and the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.
