The SPE ºÚÁÏÍø´óÊÂ¼Ç Student Chapter had the privilege of representing the University of New South Wales at the 2025 PetroBowl Asia Pacific Regional Qualifiers (APRQ), held at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) in Malaysia from 8–10 July 2025. This prestigious event, organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), brought together the region's top petroleum engineering student teams to compete in a fast-paced quiz-style format focused on technical excellence, industry knowledge, and innovation.

Competition Structure

Format: Timed buzzer-based matches with direct elimination rounds

Topics Covered:

  • Petroleum engineering fundamentals
  • Oilfield equipment and operations
  • SPE history and current industry trends
  • Sustainability and energy transition technologies

Language: English

Participants: Over 15 teams from Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, China, Vietnam, and the Philippines

ºÚÁÏÍø´óÊÂ¼Ç Performance Summary

The ºÚÁÏÍø´óÊÂ¼Ç team demonstrated strong technical knowledge and strategic collaboration throughout the competition. We competed in the first round, engaging in a closely contested match against a highly capable team from Palawan State University.

Although we did not advance to the quarterfinal stage, our team received positive recognition from event organizers and peers for our teamwork, professionalism, and depth of knowledge. The event served as an invaluable opportunity to benchmark our skills against regional peers and gain insights into effective PetroBowl strategies.
