Begin tomorrow!
Prof Richard Kingsford, Director of the University of New South Wales' Centre for Ecosystem Science and lead researcher of the eastern Australian waterbird survey, provides a summary of the expectations prior to the 43rd annual aerial survey.
The team are excited to be finally leaving tomorrow for their first leg which will be from Sydney to Maroochydore which will take in the very eastern wetlands of the northern half of the aerial survey bands.Â
They are looking forward to seeing the wetlands that after 42 years of surveys they know so well and how the water is moving around the vast landscape into areas such as Kati Thanda-Lake Eyre that are receiveing water for the first time in many years.
Aerial survey of waterbirds observers will be recording sightings of waterbirds but will also be ready to report any signs of mass mortality and avian influenza.Â
We wish the team all the best for this huge undertaking and hope you enjoy following the blog over October and November this year.
