Day 17, Griffith to Sydney

Our task today is to continue counting east along Survey Band 3 covering mainly small reservoirs, watercourses and dams. First up though, we have few Ramsar wetlands to survey before we head east.

Tuckerbill Wetland, aerial waterbird survey, 2025

Tuckerbill and Fivebough wetlands are Ramsar listed temporary wetlands near Leeton in NSW – Fivebough in particular can support large numbers of waterbirds with high diversity.

Today we find moderate numbers with high diversity – mainly grey teal, black duck, egrets, spoonbill, herons, coot, mountain duck, stilts, terns, swans, ibis herons and egrets

Our last few sites include Pijar Dam, near Crookwell and Wingecarribee and Fitzroy Falls Reservoirs near Bowral and Mittagong.

There are low numbers of waterbirds, mainly cormorants and coot.

After completing our surveys for the day and flying a relatively short distance of around 700 km, we return to Sydney.
