The seminar will cover gender differences in polysubstance use and sociodemographic overdose risks among men and women accessing residential treatment for opioid use. It will then explore women's experiences of treatment for opioid use broadly, and within residential treatment specifically. Particular attention is paid to gendered experiences and the social construction of gender, and how these impact women's engagement in treatment. Patient-reported experience measures will also be discussed as a potential avenue to capture women's complex, gendered experiences of treatment. Suggestions for improving women's experiences of care at service, sector, and policy levels will also be discussed.

About this speaker:

Chloe Haynes recently submitted her PhD at the University of Wollongong, which focused on women's experiences of treatment for opioid use disorder. She is passionate about gender and feminist theory, and in improving treatment and society for women who use substances. Chloe has experience in mixed-methods data collection, and has recently started a new role as an Associate Research Fellow with the NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence on Meaningful Outcomes in Substance Use Treatment.
