I am the Head of School of Health Sciences and a Professor in Nutrition and Dietetics in the Faculty of Medicine and Health. I am a Fellow of Dietitians Australia and also the International Association for Cereal Science and Technology (ICC) and I am the immediate past Chair of the Council of Deans of Nutrition and Dietetics (ANZ). I have more than 30 years experience in clinical practice and dietetics education. My research spans two key areas across dietetics education and cereal science.

I have a particular interest in curriculum, assessment and accreditation standards and have been part of expert working groups for reviews of the National Competency Standards for Dietitians, and the Advanced Accrediting Practising Dietitian and Fellow competency standards. My clinical research includes close links with dietetics service delivery in hospitals, while working with industry partners and international collaborators in grains research. My current projects include review of both individual grains and fibres, and their effects on metabolic health. I lead the international working group to establish a whole-grain intake recommendation, and my work in whole grains focuses on food regulation and translation to both legislation/policy and also consumer understanding of the need to eat more whole grains. I am an active member of the Whole Grain Initiative which works exclusively on this purpose. 

I also am interested in ensuring all health professionals have improved nutrition knowledge to ensure they can provide basic advice and understand when to refer to nutrition experts such as dietitians. I am an Honorary Professor in Nutrition and Dietetics in the School of Medical, Indigenous and Health Sciences, at the University of Wollongong.
