��¼� research is delivering real-world impact to advance our progress in economic and social prosperity. Our key strategic goals under the Societal Impact Framework align with the national agenda to reignite productivity growth. We aim to reduce by half the proportion of people living in poverty. We’re also working to increase employment among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to 62% and boost tertiary education participation for those from low socioeconomic backgrounds.

Enabling equal study opportunities

��ǲ��a quarter of new ��¼� undergraduate students now come from under-represented schools via our Gateway Admissions Pathway program, and they’re thriving. The program is ��¼�’s primary pathway for students who are traditionally underrepresented at ��¼� and in higher education more broadly. Data shows students at ��¼� from Gateway schools and low SES backgrounds are performing as well as their peers despite having access to ATAR adjustments of up to 15 points.

Providing free tax and legal advice to the vulnerable

Our community provides free qualified tax and legal advice to vulnerable Australians through ��¼�’s Tax & Business Advisory Clinic and Kingsford Legal Centre. The ��¼� Tax and Business Advisory Clinic has supported over 300 clients since 2019 and empowers the most socially and economically disadvantaged in the community. Kingsford Legal Centre provides free legal advice, casework and legal education and has helped over 1,500 local community members each year with problems such as domestic violence, discrimination, housing, employment, criminal law, credit and debt, fines and victim’s compensation.

New Wave by helps women to develop innovative solutions to real-world problems and pitch a viable business idea to industry leaders.

��¼� Founders startups feature female founders at twice the industry average, thanks to the New Wave program. The free program offers ��¼� students, staff and alumni who identify as women, at the earlier stages of their entrepreneurial journey, access to skill-building workshops, startup coaches, and industry-leading mentors.

The principles taught in New Wave have been tried and tested, with profound results for hundreds of women from all over the world.

Empowering Indigenous success

��¼� is committed to advancing Indigenous education, research and wellbeing and fostering belonging and opportunity for Indigenous students.

��¼� partners with the Dharriwaa Elders Group to work together to improve the wellbeing, social, built and physical environment and life pathways of Aboriginal people in Walgett through collaborating on evidence-based initiatives, research and capacity building. Within the La Perouse Aboriginal community, we’re supporting the revitalisation of the Dharawal language through a community partnership.

On campus, our Nura Gili program fosters cultural inclusion and belonging, supports academic success and empowers the next generation of Indigenous leaders.
