Social Sciences Week (8 鈥 12 September 2025) is an annual event that celebrates and showcases the diverse range of social sciences disciplines and research in Australia. It is an initiative of several Australian social science associations and coordinated by the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia.聽

The School of Social Sciences is proud to host Social Sciences Week. In 2025, our theme is 鈥淐ritical Communities鈥. We explore the many ways communities enrich and nourish us, and the power of communities coming together in solidarity at times of discord and threat.

Social Sciences Week (8 鈥 12 September 2025) is an annual event to celebrate and showcase the diverse range of social science disciplines and research in Australia. An initiative of several Australian social science associations, the week鈥檚 events are coordinated by the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia.

Join us this SSW where we explore questions such as:

What does a professional community look like at a time of AI鈥檚 proliferation?

What role does the international human rights community play during times of genocide and war?

How is sexual violence used as a weapon of war to devastate not only the individual, but to wound a community?

And how can solidarity be a healing force against systemic oppression?

We invite you to join us for a week of insight and cutting-edge analysis of contemporary social issues. Together, let us explore the critical roles communities play as expressions of solidarity, resistance, identity-and-meaning-making. We hope the program will make you feel a new curiosity about the world, make discoveries, and feel moved and hopeful.
