Accelerator Mass Spectrometry
Personalise
Chronos Radiocarbon Laboratory

Description

MICADAS is an Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) system for radiocarbon (14C) analysis of solid or gaseous samples. It is designed to measure the 13C/12C and 14C/12C isotopic ratios with high precision.

Specifications

    • The MICADAS system features a hybrid cesium sputter ion source.
    • Designed for high-efficiency ionization of samples.
    • Equipped with a random-access sample changer
    • Can hold up to 40 graphite or gas cathodes.
    • Enhances sample throughput and operational efficiency.
    • Achieves stable ion beam currents of 50 to 150 渭A for solid samples.
    • Maintains currents of 10 to 20 渭A C- for gas samples.
    • Ensures consistent performance during routine operations.
    • Supports fully automated gas measurement processes.
    • Compatible with an autosampler (CHS2) for streamlined operation.
    • Integrates with an elemental analyzer (EA) for precise analysis.
    • Handles CO2-filled glass or quartz tubes for diverse sample types.

Applications

  • Paleoclimate studies
  • Police forensics
  • Archaeology
  • Aquatic ecosystems
  • Sports doping
  • Soil science
