My name is Saanvi, and I’m currently in my third year of a Law and Social Sciences (Media, Culture & Technology) double degree at ºÚÁÏÍø´óÊÂ¼Ç Sydney. As a first-generation Indian Australian who had the privilege of relocating to Australia by choice, I’m deeply aware of the opportunities this freedom has afforded me. The ability to shape my own future is a privilege not everyone has, and I believe it’s a right that should be accessible to all.

This belief is what drew me to JEINA’s mission: empowering migrant women to take ownership of their educational and professional journeys.

JEINA’s commitment to equity and inclusion resonated strongly with my values, especially as someone passionate about justice and amplifying marginalised voices.

During my internship with JEINA as Literature Developer, I conducted in-depth research into the multifaceted challenges migrant women face - particularly those shaped by gendered and cultural dynamics. My work aimed to go beyond surface-level support, encouraging JEINA’s initiatives to consider the broader socio-cultural context that influences these women’s experiences. This approach challenges the limitations of conventional migrant support programs, which often focus solely on financial aid without addressing systemic barriers.

While I initially connected with JEINA through my interest in advocacy, my time with JEINA has deepened my understanding of the critical role policy plays in creating meaningful change. I’ve come to appreciate how effective policy must not only be strategic but also compassionate - recognising the humanity of the communities it seeks to serve.
